Setting up Clara takes less than 10 minutes. Here’s everything you need to do.
Step 1: Download the app
Clara is available on the App Store and Google Play. Download it and create your account using your email address or phone number.
Step 2: Tell Clara about your business
During setup, you’ll answer a few questions:
- Business name — how Clara should introduce herself on calls
- What you do — so Clara can ask the right questions
- Your service area — so Clara can confirm the caller’s location
Step 3: Connect your calls
There are two ways to get calls to Clara. Pick the one that fits how you work:
Forward your existing number. Your customers keep calling the number they already know, and calls reach Clara based on the mode you choose:
- When unanswered — Clara picks up only when you don’t answer within a set number of rings
- Always on — all calls go to Clara (you can still see and call back from the app)
- Scheduled — Clara answers outside your business hours only

Or use your Clara number as your business line. Give out your Clara number directly, on your website, ads, or business cards, and Clara answers every call to it. No forwarding setup needed. See Using your Clara number as your business number.
Step 4: Test it
Once you’re connected, try calling your own number (or your Clara number). You’ll hear Clara answer, and within seconds you’ll see the call summary appear in the app.
