When you sign up for Clara, you’re assigned a dedicated phone number. It’s included on every plan, and it’s yours to use for as long as you’re subscribed.
Two ways to use it
- As a forwarding destination. Forward calls from your existing business number, and Clara picks up when you can’t. Your customers keep calling the number they already know. This is the most common setup for established businesses.
- As a second business line. Give out your Clara number directly, on your website, ads, or business cards, and Clara answers every call to it. Handy if you want to keep your personal number private, or you’re starting out and don’t have a business number yet. See Using your Clara number as your business number.
Either way, Clara answers the same way and sends you the same call summaries. You can also switch between the two at any time.
Can I choose my number?
Clara assigns you a local number for your state automatically, so callers see a familiar area code. If you’d like a specific area code or a different number, message us and we’ll see what’s available.
Porting an existing number
If you’d like to use an existing phone number as your Clara line, contact our support team. We can help with number porting on a case-by-case basis.
What happens to my number if I cancel?
If you cancel your subscription, we hold your Clara number for one week. After that it’s released and may be reassigned. If you’ve been advertising your Clara number as your business line and you’re thinking of cancelling, contact support first so we can talk through your options.
