There are two ways calls reach Clara: forwarding from your existing number, or callers dialling your Clara number directly. You’re not locked into either. Here’s how to move between them, or run both.
From forwarding to a direct line
- Start giving out your Clara number wherever customers find you (website, ads, directories)
- Keep forwarding on while the new number spreads. Both routes reach the same Clara, so nothing is missed during the changeover
- Once most calls arrive on the Clara number, you can turn forwarding off or leave it on as a safety net
From a direct line to forwarding
- Set up call forwarding on the number you want Clara to cover
- Update your advertising to show that number instead of the Clara number
- Leave the Clara number live for as long as callers might still have it saved, calls to it still reach Clara
Running both at once
There’s nothing to configure. Forwarded calls and direct calls land in the same inbox, get the same greeting, and produce the same summaries. Many businesses forward their long-standing main number and advertise the Clara number for a specific campaign, service, or region.
Things to know
- Your Clara number stays the same when you switch modes, nothing is reassigned
- Call history, summaries, and settings are shared across both routes
- If you cancel your subscription, the Clara number is held for one week and then released, so update any advertising first
